I am so excited for our holiday adventure to start. I can hardly wait, If you watched the cartoon movie Cars, then you know we will be taking the same route only on newer roads When I was a child travelling between Oklahoma and California my parents took the old route 66 hwy there were a lot of sites sometimes daddy would stop and sometimes he was trying to make the trip in 24hrs. We will be doing it in approx. 2 1/2 days we want to be able to see the trees as they go by.

My Husband

I want to tell you about my husband.   David Jame Turley

He is the best thing that ever happened to me.I could give you the long version of our love story but I won't torture you like that. just let me give you the highlights. I met him when I was 17yrs old in Stockton, CA. i was a student at  what is now called CLC but in the 70's it was Western Apostolic Bible college " WABC"
And he was a new Foreign exchange student from the United Kingdom. It was not love at first sight. But by the end of the year he new he wanted me t be his girlfriend. I was infatuated with another young man, no names. By the end of the school year 1974 he had asked me to marry him and I had refused "I was horrible"
Yet not to long after leaving school the day came when I realized I really did want to get to know him better so I contacted him and invited him to visit me. "Bold Missy"  Anyway long story short Three years after our first meeting we were married and 35 years later I wouldn't trade him for anything. Yes we have our days of war but the days of peace are so wonderful I love spending time with him and I enjoy his sense of humor. Oh did I mention his Beautiful BLUE eyes and he is English with a accent.

Day 26 Something Old

Well I almost put a picture of me here but then I remembered I'm not old I'm Vintage.
the picture I did choose was a Table that belonged to my husbands mother. She bought it second hand when my husband was a a boy at home,  he is now almost 60 and he tells me it is over 100 yrs old.  It is a drop leaf table with barley twist legs it is beautiful I love it.  I love antiques. Maybe because my husband is one.

Yesterday in Review

Let's see if I can get this straight. Wow what a day, it started out ok, atypical Wednesday. yet as the day got older this vintage lady began to feel under the weather. by church time came I had a headache that would not let up it has been a very long time since I have had a headache like this. I had to go to Walmart to get some things for after church snack and get gas. So here is where my story starts. I arrived at Walmart my head just pounding
I thought I could get the stuff I needed and go . So I grabbed the onions, cheese and then went to get asprin couldn't find them finally asked where they were and took my purchases to the counter. After paying for my stuff I started to leave the store when my brain had a jolt and I remembered I didn't buy my gas card or my nylons so I had to go back and and get those things. The torture was almost unbearable. Then at church my brain just totally quit working. I could not even remember how long we were married I was so confused . Finally I had to get my husband to help me. Also dizziness came over me and I almost fell down. Looking back I feel so awful we had a visitor I hope she didn't think I was weird. Truthfully was sick. What it was I don't know.
Today my head is still hurting and I have so much to do.

Tuesdays Ramblings

Washing is there ever an end to the pile of laundry? It seems to grow even larger as you take from it. My superman designed and built me a 3 compartment rolling laundry basket this year it is great! He has two of the compartments and I have one and it seems as if he can fill both of his compartments in one weekend. It is a never ending pile of mens clothing.  Yet I will continue washing his clothes because he is my special someone.
I am trying to prepare my home for a holiday. My husband I as I have mentioned in one of my earlier blogs are heading to California to visit our daughter and our first grandson. We are getting so excited, the day of departure is getting nearer. I do not like to leave my house with any thing out of place. I guess I am morbid but I like to feel that if any misfortune were to happened my home would be guest ready.   In other words no one would be able to say I didn't keep a clean home in my Eulogy. I know I'm CRAZY.
Any way I am diligently summer cleaning my house and garden.
Last week I lost 4 days to my broken Air conditioner because my house was so hot inside (92 degrees)  I could  not work, so this week I am trying to make up for lost time.

List of things completed:
     Furniture cleaned
couch - vacuumed and all cushions turned  (will air cushions day before I leave)
                  washing - completely caught up
master closet - vacuumed, shelves tidied, air freshener replaced
dresser drawers - everything refolded and tidied
Guest bedroom - tidied and refreshed

Things yet to be done:
               Kitchen - cabinets tidied
Bathrooms - must do a final everyday clean, hang fresh towels
Laundry room - last minute tidy
               Floors - vacuum, sweep, mop
               Final dusting of all furniture.
Garden - mowing and weeding  hopefully my husband can get it done.

Whew I'm tired just thinking about it. I really need to get off here and get some more done before this day is over.  Wait I have a bit more Ice Tea so I have an excuse to sit here and write.

There is one room in my home I am not going to worry about and that is our garage/den it is piled with treasures right now it is sewing room/video room, and  my husbands play room. I am trying to get him to make it into his man cave and I would then take over the small bedroom he uses for his study.   I have been working on him now for 6 months.
ok I will stop now and get back to work.
Bye -Bye        8^D

Monday Madness

It seems that with every time I say Mondays is my day of rest I becomes my busiest. Yesterday I found myself  not able to go back to sleep after my husband left for work at 4:30am so I made myself a cup of tea and sat in the recliner with my laptop. The night before I had made arrangements to become a secret shopper and so around 10am I started to prepare my self for my little shopping experience which was to a local internet service company. I left the house at around 10:30 am from that time I was on the go until 4:00pm. When I finally got back home and was able to take a break for a short while.  Then when my husband came home I had to fix dinner and was able to spend a little time with him.  But because of my early hour I was tire and went to bed at 10:30pm.
Today is back to schedule and I have much to do. Washing clothes, mopping floors just general housekeeping with a little extra touch to get ready for our holiday.

A Bed is Just a Bed Unless it's Pretty

I have slept many places on many forms of a bed. Pallet on the floor, folding camp bed, on the couch, in a chair, on the ground, air mattress, full bed , twin bed, king size bed, water bed and in many places, in a hotel, in a camp trailer, in a motel, others homes, in England, in Mexico, different US states. but even if your bed is not the most comfortable there is no place more restful than in your own bed at home.

My bed my husband bought for me as a birthday present in 1988
I had to post both of these pictures
                                                                  I thought they were unique
I know I'm no photographer but I love to play
                                                                  with creative  Ideas.

.
Once again this was a photo challenge pic but I decided to leave it on my blog I love the colors.

On The Shelf

I started looking thru my house for an interesting shelf display, I did find one. Then I started thinking about the phrase, "ON THE SHELF".
One meaning that comes to mind is when in Victorian days if a young lady was beyond her coming out age (between 15-20) she was considered on the shelf, we put antiques on the shelf, we place all kinds of things on the shelf, I am looking forward to seeing what you have "On The Shelf."
This picture was posted for the 30 day Photo Challenge but I thought I would leave it on because of my Husbands heritage.

Someones Junk Is My Treasure

if you read my post yesterday I said That I was going out for a while and while I was out I was going to rummage through others junk or as some call it castoffs. Well  I found me a treasure and if you are anywhere near my age which by the way is not old, you will remember these little trays. Original TV trays. We had some when I was a little girl. isn't it funny how when out antiquing more and more we run across things that are considered vintage yet we don't consider our selves in that class.  Hey, I think I like that; I'm Vintage not old or antique.
Anyway lets get back to my find these little trays were made of aluminium with little collapsible legs. So I got it for $1.00 and it is going on holiday with me. As I have mentioned before we are taking a road trip to California soon and I am of the old (vintage) school take food with you so my little vintage TV tray will become my travel tray.  I will use it to fix a snack work on my laptop or read a book. Yeah, I'm so happy I found this treasure. See how simple things make me happy.

Don't you just love it and the butterflies such an awesome find in good shape.

Cloudy with a chance of ?

Today is Monday the 15th of August 20011 it is cloudy and overcast, and it finds me recuperating from a busy weekend. As most of you who read my blog knows, I am the wife of a preacher who pastors a small church on the very border of Oklahoma & Arkansas; two states I never thought I would ever list as my home state.  Yet here I am claiming my territory. Anyway this weekend was very busy and today I am just veging. I am going to go out after while and enjoy a good rummage through other peoples cast offs hoping to find that special something I just can't live without.
Also this weekend found David and I with tummy troubles to which I am still suffering ( I think the Mexican food we had Saturday had a little to do with the cause) because others who ate there with us also were feeling the effects. But I am going to brave the outside world and try to enjoy my day.

Georgous Blue

This flower sits on my piano. Yes, it is artificial but I love the color and the lushness of its petals. It just draws me into its beautiful depth. For me it is a peaceful color.

I took and posted this picture as my day 14 picture for the 30 day Photo Challenge but I thought is was so pretty that I decided to keep it here. Also the little figurines of the boy and girl remind me of my precious children and how My son Paul used to aggravate his sister Natassja all the time. these were given to me by my mothers Sister Aunt Alma before she passed away. I love them.

Would you like a free bottle of water?

Today our church stood in front of the local Walmart and handed free cold bottles of water to any one who would take one. Can you believe that some people will not even accept a FREE bottle of water on a hot day.
Anyway we had a great time it was hot but fun. I had fun designing the label which was a simple design with the church logo on it and the address and times but it got the message out there. Then after they were all gone we went to one of my husbands favorite places a Hot Wheels car show and he then was in toy haven.Men and their toys. Thank goodness I was able to have some friends with us so the ladies could sit and talk while the men walked and dreamed. Today was a good day ending with a sun burn.

So Much To Do

Getting ready for a a holiday is really time consuming and tiring. The house must be clean everything in it's place. If you do have the unfortunate event of having unwanted visitors during your absence you want them to see a clean house. But not be able to find anything because its where it should be.
Truthfully though the thought of going on holiday is in itself daunting.  If you have pets you must find a place you feel comfortable in leaving them or someone you can trust to care for them in your own home. Then if you have plants who is going to water them for you? If you have children that's another category by its self, something at this time in my life which is not a part of my preparations. You then have to plan your trip and your finances.
When did vacation holidays become so gruelling?  I need a break.
Yet I am so excited to know soon I will be taking a road trip route 66 here I come.  " California or Bust".

YEAH, I had a Great Day

Yesterday I  got to send most of the day with my kids, my son Paul and Daughter n luv Sherry. I love being with them we didn't do much but it was fun just being able to laugh and enjoy each other. We did go to an indoor flea market and spent probably two hours just browsing looking thru others junk trying to find our special treasure, of course I didn't leave empty handed.  Then stopping at Freckles to get a nice cold frozen custard before heading over to Buy Buy Babies to look at all the baby stuff that we want for our precious soon to arrive Noah. Oh if any one is interested and wants to get Noah something he is registered at Buy Buy Babies. Then back to the house to finish off with some time of just talking.  Yeah for the day!
I LOVE ALL MY KIDS wish we were all living close so we could have more time together. But  in just a few Short weeks I will get to spend a few days with my other kids Natassja, Jose and of course that  little jet propelled fly by the seat of his pants grandson of mine Nathaniel and hopefully we will get to see Jose Lorenzo our teenage grandson.

The Day Before

It is August 5th the day before our wedding anniversary, here's the dilemma what to get or do for my husband on a limited budget.  Yesterday he spent what I would call a large sum on my gift, he bought the purse I wanted. Of course we got 20 percent off and it was no tax week. so he saved some. He is so good to me. I want to spoil him what should I do. I am going shopping today for a bit to see if I can find him something.  Hoping and praying something jumps out and says this is it.   Cross your fingers and toes for this one.

Creating - Designing - Sewing Part 2

Well, I did it and it turned out pretty good. I am pleased with it. I will probably make more.
As I have said often I'm new at this blogging and so I'm not sure how it's done but if you read my stuff  and if you can then please comment on what you think of my projects.

Grasshoppers

YUCK! Grasshoppers everywhere.

The weather here in Oklahoma/Arkansas for the past few weeks has been hot and dry, everything is dying the grass, flowers, trees  everything can't afford the cost of keeping everything alive so I pick and choose what to water. I so want my tomatoes to survive s I have been really trying to care for them. Just the thought of fresh tomatoes, Yummmm.
Oh yeah , back to grasshoppers they are everywhere eating the crops. and being annoying.  Last night after church I had to run to the little Homeland store in Jay to get some Chips (Crisps) for my English friends, we always have a bite to eat after Bible Study Wednesday night  (Whew studying makes a body hungry).
Anyway while in the store at the register checking out something hit me in the neck I turned to see who was throwing things as I swiped at my stinging neck and something whizzed passed me. With a raised eyebrow I asked what was that and the girl at the register said a big grasshopper   EWWW!   Wow when he landed on my neck it felt like someone had hit me with a huge spit wad.
Then back at the church after our snack and fellowship we heard something that sounded like large raindrops hitting the windows in the front of the church so we checked it we were being blessed by the abundance of rain and to our surprise, once again it was grasshoppers attracted to the light in the windows knocking to get in.
Grasshoppers as a child I used to catch them in our school milk cartons now I try to run from them.   LOL

Creating - Designing -Sewing

Tryng my hand at designing today. Many years I designed and made clothes for my daughter because she always wanted to be different, she wanted her clothes to be her own personal statement. Then as she grew older she would buy her clothes and bring them home for mom to alter or remake, This some times was even harder than making the item from scratch.  I miss those days now, when at the time I would complain I now would love to have her close enough for her to come running to mom "Please fix this, I need it yesterday" .
When she was 13  I sewed for over a month solid, designing and making her a complete wardrobe to go to youth camp. Yes I loved and still love my daughter.
I also used to sew for my son, when he was younger .  I made his little shorts and even made him a little Easter suit one year because I couldn't afford to buy him one.
Now I sew very rarely but this year I have done more. and have enjoyed doing it. I made my daughter an Easter Dress and then I have been sewing for my Daughter n luv.  But today I am sewing for myself which I haven't done since the late 80's early 90's.  Actually I am redesigning a T-Shirt.  Wish me success.

Hot - Hot - Hot

There is an old song "Send down the rain Lord"  Now I know it's singing about the latter rain power of the Holy Ghost. But today I would like to sing it literally "Send down the rain Lord, Send down the rain Lord, Send down a nice cool rain. We need the rain Lord, wed need the rain Lord, We need the cool life giving rain.
Right Now in my City   It's 108°F, Sunny and hot.

Inside my house even with the a/c on it is 80 this is hard to handle.

Grandma I'm a boy

It's Sunday and already four days after I got the news. But I wasn't sure if I was going to continue this blog thingy I can't figure out all the techy stuff of getting it up and running.
Any way the NEWS is I am going to be grandma to another boy. .That's ok by me we can have lots of fun. playing  cars in the dirt.

I borrowed this picture from Sherry's facebook Page hope she doesn't mind just wanted everyone to see my grandson Noah.
What a blessing.
